Fear

In English, we are reading the book Lord of the Flies. In our class discussion today, we were talking about what happens to people when they are afraid. Fear changes a person. It makes them revert to a more primitive mindset, and make them act differently than they normally do. They are more aware of things, and get very jumpy. Sometimes, people change their priorities because of their fear.

People can be scared of different things, such as sharks, the dark, or the first day in a new school. Some kids think fear is just insecurity, but I do not agree. Being afraid is not something to be ashamed of. You should not feel inferior because you are afraid of something. I am very scared of thunderstorms, spiders, scary movies and the dark. I used to care about what people thought of me being frightened, but I don’t anymore. You should overcome your fears at your own pace, if you choose to at all. One thing you should definitely not do is let your fears take control of you.

"You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do." -Eleanor Roosevelt

Semi ‘08

This past Friday was the Winter Semi Formal. I think everyone had a great time. Before the dance, a lot of people sometimes go to friends’ houses for pictures for a pre-semi party, then go over to the dance together. I had a bunch of my friends over before semi, for pictures and just to hang out. Everyone looked great and it was fun to see the whole school together. The gym was transformed and decorated to fit the theme. The DJ was awesome and kept the energy up. I think everyone who was dancing had sore legs the next day. It was also my best friend Jenna’s 16th birthday. My friends and I all tried to make it as special as we could for her.

Semi Formal.

This Friday is the annual Christmas Semi Formal and we are all very excited! I have a black dress that I decided to wear and I hope to get my hair curled for the dance. I didn’t go last year so I am anxious to go to see what it is like. The committee spends hours decorating our school gym and I heard last year that the gym looked pretty amazing. I can’t dance but thanks to the numerous amounts of sweet 16s I have been too I think I am ready to dance the night away. Speaking of sweet 16’s I have to go to one the next day after semi. This is going to be a busy weekend. I love the month of December. Out of all the months in the year, December is definitely my favorite. I think it just has a very warm feeling and it makes me eager for Christmas. I love ice skating and drinking hot chocolate, and doing all this in December is just a different feeling. I don’t think I can describe it. Wish me luck with dancing, talk to you later.

Basketball Season Begins :]

The Basketball season of 2008-2009 has begun! Over the weekend, basketball tryouts were held for the boys’ team and the girls’ team. Friday and Saturday was for everyone who was interested in playing this season, and Sunday was for callbacks for Varsity. On Friday, I was surprised at how many freshmen were there. They came out and tried their hardest. 3 of them were called back on Sunday to try and make varsity. There were a lot less returning players this year, as opposed to last year. I made JV this year, and am looking forward to it, as I think everyone is, to sharpen their skills and play the game we all love. This is my all-time favorite part of the year, and I plan on trying my hardest to get a starting spot. I think if you love the game, then you should go out for the team. It’s a great chance to spend a lot of time playing the game competitively, and becoming friends with a different group of people.
