Fear

In English, we are reading the book Lord of the Flies. In our class discussion today, we were talking about what happens to people when they are afraid. Fear changes a person. It makes them revert to a more primitive mindset, and make them act differently than they normally do. They are more aware of things, and get very jumpy. Sometimes, people change their priorities because of their fear.

People can be scared of different things, such as sharks, the dark, or the first day in a new school. Some kids think fear is just insecurity, but I do not agree. Being afraid is not something to be ashamed of. You should not feel inferior because you are afraid of something. I am very scared of thunderstorms, spiders, scary movies and the dark. I used to care about what people thought of me being frightened, but I don’t anymore. You should overcome your fears at your own pace, if you choose to at all. One thing you should definitely not do is let your fears take control of you.

"You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do." -Eleanor Roosevelt
